Fishing Worry Over Giant Wind Farm Plan

Posted by Paul, at 05:12 AM

The so called Humber Gateway Offshore Wind Farm would consist of around 83 turbines in some of the richest fishing grounds in the North Sea. Supporters says the wind farm is capable of generating enough electricity to power the likes of Grimsby or Hull.

But Nikki Hale, chief executive of the Eastern England Fish Producers, which has members covering an area from Scotland to Essex, said the plan was being viewed with increasing alarm by trawler crews and owners of smaller fishing vessels. She was worried that the plan would adversely affect fishing activity.

So it's the fish now!!!! I guess they will run into the bases of the towers and die.

Hmm, instant sushi comes to mind.

The turbines will increase the structural diversity of the sea floor which could increase biodiversity?

You silly people! Nobody's worried about the fish. It's the fisherman who are worried about their livelihoods!

You are right Mark. Their livelihoods are threatened by the wind towers. I can see two threats. One, the towers will be obstacles for trawler fishing, and second, the towers are a danger to the boats, especially in rough seas. I can also see that to protect the towers, fishing close by will probably be prohibited.

Feel sorry for the poor sods. Politically, this game is stacked against them.
