This kills a small percentage of the younger and less valuable scrubbier species which also makes travel much much easier in the bush while perpetuating biodiversity .
Major Mitchell complained about the timber and scrub regrowth brought about by settlement around sydney, slowing his horse and wagon exploration parties in the early 1800,s. He went on up to the Darling where he recorded that he had "blushed inwardly" in front of his Aboriginal guide at the state of his next camp waterhole badly polluted by cattle. we are slow learners us greedy colonials !
